Tomorrow is the last day to nominate your favorite staff member at Larkspur.
Annually, the Apple Awards recognize the best teachers, support staff and administrators in the Douglas County School District. These outstanding individuals are nominated by the community and their peers. Please nominate here.
Five years ago an amazing teacher entered Larkspur Elementary. Today we are saying goodbye. Cindy, we thank you for all your hard work and dedication to our little school in the woods and enjoy your time with family in Texas. We will miss you!
Look who is coming to Larkspur in 2018!
**We are super excited to welcome Stephani Heppenstall. Stephani brings more than ten years of experience in the field of education. She has been part of the Larkspur community since 2013 and is currently the chair for Bobcat Kids Inc. We are excited to welcome Stephani to our LES family!
Larkspur would like to introduce to you the new fourth grade teacher, Kathryn Medley! Here is a bit about Mrs. Medley:
I have extensive classroom teaching experience, including several years as an inclusion teacher working closely with the Special Education department, as well as experience teaching math in an MYP program. I also have numerous professional development hours in English as a second language (ESL). Additionally, I served as the Gifted and Talented district coordinator (K-12); a position that provided me administrative experience including budget management. My work at international schools in South Korea and Myanmar has given me experience working with a diversified student population.
My work in gifted education has taught me the value of teaching critical and creative thinking skills to my students. Inspiring students to become problem solvers is a top priority in my classroom. I have experience with the Understanding by Design curriculum framework. I enjoy finding new ways to integrate technology into my lessons, and have attended several workshops and conferences on that topic. I believe in the concept of service learning, and encourage students to learn how to give back to their community.
I continually work on my own educational and personal growth as demonstrated by obtaining my Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership/Curriculum Director and my Master’s degree in Gifted and Talented Education, and holding leadership and mentoring positions such as National Elementary Honor Society advisor, Kiwanis International Builder’s club advisor, Lego Robotics coach, and math Olympiad coach, among others.
Welcome Stephani and Kathryn!
Thank you for all your support and dedication to our amazing school. We wish you an amazing holiday season and we will see all of you on January 8th 2018!
Jen Oldham, Principal
