Safety and Security at Larkspur Elementary:

In light of last week’s shooting tragedy in Parkland, FL, I want to let you all know that the safety and security of every LES student and staff member is a responsibility that I never take for granted.

Common practices at LES and DCSD include:

  • Maintaining a secured perimeter. All outside doors are locked and all parents and visitors must be let into the building by a staff member through the front door only.

  • It is required that you EXIT the building through the front doors only and after signing yourself out on our Visitor log.

  • All parents and visitors must sign in and out at the front office.

  • Our school day officially begins at 9:00 a.m. and it is an expectation that your child(ren) are in their seats at that time.  When you know your child will be late to their classroom when dropping off, you must park your car, walk in with your child(ren) and sign them in on the Student Check In Log.  Our front doors need to close at 9:05 promptly when the late bell rings.

  • Our security cameras are rolling both inside and outside the building and we monitor student activity in and out of the building.

  • Staff remains alert to anything that might seem ‘off’ or suspicious, especially in our parking lot and outdoor areas.

  • Several times on a daily basis, the Douglas County Sheriff and Douglas County School Marshals walk our building, both inside and outside.

  • We practice our Standard Response Protocols (SRPs), with evacuate, lockdowns and shelter-in-place drills. All drills are logged with the district.

  • Monthly collaboration with community on the safety and security committee.

Additionally, DCSD’s security department provides resources and guidance to all schools. The Security team is ALWAYS available to provide advice or guidance about safety/security matters, big or small, and we consult with them regularly about safety questions.

Super excited to announce that we were one of 9 schools in DCSD that won the Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award. Way to go LES staff and students! I am so proud of all the hard work we have put in on this journey! Our future for our students is so bright!

Boosterthon is off and running!

Students and staff are so excited to raise money for our amazing specials team! This is not a PTO sponsored event, but rather a fun event aligned with our vision of leading a healthy mind and body. All proceeds will go to our amazing specials teachers to help pay for the tools they need to make specials a wonderful place to learn. If you have not already done so, please log into and sign your child(ren) up today! Who do you know? How many states can you get pledges from?

Students will continue to have a unique experience throughout the rest of next week. They will participate in character building activities, be encouraged to try and excel in their goal of running 35 laps on race day.

Are you interested in volunteering the day of the race?

Please let your teacher know if you are interested in counting laps and/or handing out water to our fast runners!

Please note that parents are all welcome to cheer on the entire school, however we respectfully ask that we reserve the race for students only!
